AFTER a respectful two-minute silence, Redlynch & Hale Ladies softball side were in action on Sunday in the Hampshire W10 finals day at IBM Hursley Cricket Club, to decide the overall winner of the W10 league.
Neighbours Whiteparish had also reached the knockout stage and they drew Sarisbury in their semi-final game, whilst the Woodfalls Cross-based ladies drew Easton & Martyr Worthy.
Both semi-finals were tight affairs with Redlynch & Hale chasing 194 for victory, winning off the very last ball of the pairs format game - courtesy of a bye. Whiteparish were also shaded by just one run.
The final saw Redlynch against Easton & Martyr Worthy. The latter batted first, advancing to 192 and again an incredibly close run-chase followed with the game in the balance right through to the last over.
But with the Wiltshire side seemingly inching their way over the line. In the final over, with four needed, tragedy struck with a run-out from a direct throw and suddenly, it was nine needed from two balls.
Only two singles followed against tight bowling and Easton & Martyr Worthy had triumphed.
