A BUDDING teenage goalkeeper has been called up to represent England.

Alana Mercer, 17, is heading to Loughborough University for the 2016 UK games, which start on Thursday, September 1.

The first choice Salisbury Hockey club keeper is now in her third year of playing between the sticks at both international and national level.

Her England career started in 2014 when she represented her country at under 16, playing five nations against the likes of Germany, Spain, Belgium and Holland.

And last year she was called up for the Home Games against Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

Damerham-based Mercer has had a busy time recently, passing her driving test at the first time of asking and securing five A grades in her AS exams at South Wilts sixth form.
