OLLIE Arnold was in tremendous form with the bat as he hit a huge century for Verwood in their 58-run victory when they visited Burley in County Division 4 West.

At the start of the game, Burley had only eight players on the field and they eventually managed to find ten men but were woefully short of good bowling.

Scott McLeonards (72) partnered Arnold, pictured, and the pair took full advantage of Burley’s shortcomings in an opening stand of 181. Charlie Gajic then struck 52 but it was Arnold who played the key role hitting 22 fours in his 160 as Verwood amassed 318-3, a club record for the first team.

After losing early wickets, Burley’s skipper Alec Moorman (90) put on 161 for the fifth wicket with Alex Martin (70) but although Johnny Blundell hit a late 31, they finished well short on 260-7 with Jake Lee (3-58) and Jerry Milward (3-49) the main wicket takers.

Ellingham 2nds managed to restrict Mottisfont to 199-6 in which Dave Evans scored an unbeaten 59 and although Andy Donoghue (65) and James Turner (33) batted well, they were bowled out for 159 at Picket Post.

Ellingham’s first team continued their downward spiral with a 37-run defeat when they visited Hook and Newnham Basics 2nds in County Division 1 where they lost by 37 runs.

The home side reached 258-8 with Graham Buckingham hitting 97 and then Ellingham’s valiant chase was undone by Jack Campbell (6-19) as they were dismissed for 221.

Woodgreen were far too good for Langley Manor 2nds as they romped to a nine-wicket home victory in County Division 3 South.

Opener Kevin Cresswell (72) was the last man out as Langley Manor were dismissed for 134 in the 33rd over with only the Jerrams, Peter (24) and Luke (17), giving him any support as Jason Naish (5-31), Mark Penny (2-24) and Angus Harley (2-34) did the damage.

Jon Nash was soon into his stride hitting 15 fours in his unbeaten 72 and he shared in stand of 75 for the first wicket with Mark Penny (32) and 60 unbeaten for the second wicket with his brother Stuart (16 no) as Woodgreen swept home in the 24th over.
