A TERRIFIC spell of bowling by Manny Gurung and a ton from Jamie Harvey helped Winterbourne to a six-wicket win over neighbours Farley in County Division 4 West.

Simon Wakeford and Mike Covill got the home team off to an excellent start with the bat as the Winterbourne opening bowlers failed to find a breakthrough.

A bowling change brought the first wicket when Wakeford holed out on the boundary for 31 off the bowling of Matt Newman.

Covill continued to look in ominous form, punishing any bad balls and passing his half century as Thompson helped to put on 68 for the second wicket. Farley were now 148 for 1 off 28 overs and it looked like a huge score was inevitable until the arrival of bowlers Will Everett and Gurung.

And it took the worst ball of the match to turn the game around as Thompson pulled a dreadful long hop from Everett straight to Craig Johnson on the boundary, and he was out for 30.

It was Everett's next over which gave Winterbourne real hope as key man Covill was bowled for 85.

Gurung then produced an outstanding series of deliveries, taking five wickets without conceding a run in just 17 balls. Farley folded from 148-1 to 178 all out. An awesome one handed catch by Charlie Everett at gully started the collapse, as Ramsey was out for 12 and then Gurung clean bowled Glanvill, Wakeford, Roberts and Owen in quick succession. Will Everett chipped in with another two wickets at the other end to finish with 4 for 34 but it was Gurung with 5 for 7 who was the real star of the show.

Winterbourne's openers of Harvey and Johnson made a positive start to the run chase and after 22 overs at drinks, the score had raced along to 111 without loss.

It wasn't until Owen was brought into the attack that the first wicket fell as Johnson was trapped LBW for 44.

Matt Windows hit a series of drives down the ground to bring Winterbourne within 16 runs of victory before also falling LBW to Owen for 17.

Harvey, now on 99, was nearly run out as he attempted a quick single, but the shy at the stumps missed and he came through for his fourth Winterbourne league century.

A couple of quick wickets for Ted Glanvill gave Farley another bonus point near the end when Everett chopped the ball onto his stumps for one and then Gurung was caught and bowled first ball. It was left to Harvey to hit the winning runs, finishing unbeaten on 109 and giving Winterbourne maximum points for the third game in a row.
