Hampshire League - County Divisions

WOODGREEN’S Nash brothers, Jon and Stuart, were in sparkling form with the bat as their side won by 54 runs when they entertained Cadnam in County Division 3 South.

With two wickets, including Mark Penny (12), down for only 14 runs it was left to Stuart (63 including 12 fours) and his brother Jon Nash to share in a fourth wicket stand of 141 that took them to 257 when they were all out in the 45th over with Vickram Singh (4-25) and Sam Kirkham (4-83) the main wicket takers.

Jon Nash struck 15 fours and six sixes, including three in one over, as he made 131.

Cadnam looked to be heading home early when they stuttered to 95-6 (Richard Way 38) but Jacob Sheath (66) and Singh (35 no) put on 108 for the seventh wicket and they finished on 203-7 with Penny taking 2-47 alongside Angus Harley (2-61)

Andy Donaghue smashed a large century as Ellingham 2nds boosted their fight against relegation in County Division 4 West with an 126-run victory over struggling Suttoners 2nds at Picket Post.

Ellingham skipper Andy Jones (33) gave his side a steady start but it was a fourth wicket stand of 150 between Donaghue (133) and Alex Turner (59), followed by an unbeaten 43 from James Turner, that propelled the home side to 295-4.

Suttoners were never in contention and were dismissed for 169 in 44 overs, Sam Stone taking 3-20.

Although still without several of their key players, Ellingham put their previous week’s disaster behind them but although they notched up an excellent reply in a high-scoping encounter, it was not enough to beat Shrewton and they lost by 14 runs away in County Division 1.

Chris Brewer (98) and Stuart Cruise (65) were the mainstays of the Shrewton innings as they racked up a challenging 303-8. Ellingham made a spirited response through Mark Burrett (76) and Jim Edwards (38), who shared in a third wicket stand of 103, and then skipper Sean Leadbetter (37) and Vince Dawkins (39 no) got them close but they finished on 289-8.

Verwood completed their fifth victory in succession when they beat promotion hopefuls Mottisfont by 11 runs at Potterne Park.

Scott McLeonards (67) and Oliver Arnold (47) scored more than half of Verwood’s 189 but despite a good knock from Ian Bradwell (55), wickets tumbled to the Gajic brothers, Charlie (3-33) and Ali (3-28), and Mottisfont were dismissed for 178 in the 45th over.

Ten-man Burley knew that their 169 was never going to be enough and so it proved when they lost at home to second-placed IBM Hursley by eight wickets.

Burley got a solid start from openers Steve Doick (30) and Keiran Hudson (43) who put on 78 and then James Edworthy hit 57 before they were all out in the 44th over. With Mike Pollard (59 no) and Rob Pfiffer (49) taking advantage of the home side’s absences in the field, they raced home in just 25 overs.
