Hampshire League – other regional divisions

AN inspired spell of bowling from Verwood 2nds’ skipper Dan Thompson turned the game on its head when his side visited Brockenhurst 2nds in Regional Division 3 West at Balmer Lawn.

Verwood’s first three wickets fell for just two runs and after Ed Hungerford (17) was out, it was Eric Pearson (59 no) who ensured that the visitors reached three figures with a seventh wicket stand of 51 with Simon Jordan (20) before the final wicket went at 109 in the 38th over, seven batsman failing to score.

Brockenhurst were kept in check by opening bowler Jordan (2-23) and Pearson (2-16) who came on first change but, as the score crept along, Thompson brought himself on and he took an all-bowled 5-9 to dismiss the home side for 72 in the 30th over.

Burley’s nine men were no match for Sway 3rds who cruised to a six-wicket victory at Pennington.

Alex Martin (22) and Peter Stacey (35) put on 42 for Burley’s second wicket and then Ray Gunn made 27 before Burley succumbed for 122 against Ben Sanger (3-29) and Charlie Smith (3-22).

Although Jim Burry took 3-28, he could not stop Tom Burton smashing an unbeaten 70 as Sway sped home in under 24 overs.

Hyde 2nds retained their top place in the table with a two-wicket home victory over Lytchett who they dismissed for 160.

In Regional Division 2 West Bramshaw 2nds’ Gary Loveless must have been disappointed after scoring a fine unbeaten century for his side only to see them lose by two wickets to Alderholt who now seem to have found some form.

Well over half of Bramshaw’s 218-4 was made by Loveless (121 no) but then the home side conceded 49 extras as Alderholt reached their target in 38 overs thanks to Tom Morris (42), Matt Puttock (31) and Guy Andrew (21).
