A ONE-HUNDRED and fifty seven run Hampshire League defeat at Alton followed by a nine-wicket Village Cup trouncing by Parley capped a miserable weekend for Shrewton.

Their three-match winning start in County Division 1 went up in smoke when Alton II piled up a thumping 296-6, with top three Joe Paul (81), Howard Gadsby (70) and Andy Postles (67) scoring the lion’s share.

The run fest didn’t continue when Shrewton got to the crease, as only Stuart Cruse (36) (who had earlier taken 4-52) made his mark in a disappointing 139 all out.

Shrewton did put more runs on the board the following day - Will Sleeman (58), Chris Brewer (32) and Sam Gillot (28) helping post 198-9 at Parley.

But the Christchurch-based side breezed the run chase on the back of an unbroken 133-run stand between Sam Collins (79) and Owen Morris (74) to clinch a Dorset/Wilts Village final trip to Goatacre on Sunday week.

Redlynch & Hale’s Dave Webber hit a Village Cup century in vain. He powered two sixes and 15 fours in a valiant 106, but his teammates managed only 52 runs between them as Goatacre (255-9) won by 97 runs.
