CHANCES of Salisbury FC completing the unprecedented double were dashed at the hands of Melksham Town.

The Whites, last night, missed out on adding more silverware to the trophy cabinet following a 2-0 defeat to Darren Perrin's side in the Wiltshire Senior Cup Final.

Despite Steve Claridge's charges dominating possession, they paid the price for not taking their chances at Chippenham Town's Hardenhuish Park.

Two goals in the last 20 minutes saw Toolstation Western League Premier Division high-fliers lift the cup in front a 736 crowd.

Joe Stradling broke the deadlock in the 68th minute after latching onto Mike Perrot's pass and thumping past Charlie Searle.

Gary Higdon then smashed an unstoppable volley past Searle to double his side's advantage and win the tie.

The Sydenhams Wessex Premier champions, who suffered just their seventh defeat of the season, have three games left in the league.

They look to bounce back on Saturday at AFC Portchester, then head to Fareham on Tuesday night before finishing proceedings at home to Newport on Saturday, May 7.

Whites' road to the final:

1st rnd: Wroughton 6-1

2nd rnd: Mere Town 7-1

QF: Laverstock 6-1

SF: Corsham Town 6-2
