WELSHMAN Callum Hart has "no regrets" in re-joining beloved club Salisbury FC from fellow champions Sutton United - but insists life in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier has been an "eye-opener".

The 30-year-old exited Paul Doswell's charges at the end of July last year for the re-birth of the Whites in a player/coaching role.

Nine months later, Sutton have been crowned champions of the National League South while Whites have won their division.

The ex-professional, who is three games away from completing his first season at step five, which is three leagues lower than he's used to, told JournalSport: "I text their manager (Paul Doswell) in the week to say congratulations."

"I still speak to some of the lads and it's a good club, with a good set of fans and manager but the travelling was just too much for me.

"Daytime training was just too much to go to London two or three times a week - no regrets."

"We're champions as well, which makes it that little bit easier."

Whites wrapped up the Wessex League title three weeks before the season ended with a 3-0 victory over Horndean.

Hart was out injured with an ankle injury that night but made his return to competitive action for the first time in three weeks during Saturday's 5-1 win over Hamworthy United.

He penned a two-year deal with Whites in the summer and says he wants to be part of the club's long-term plans.

"It's always nice to be champions and it was kind of expected with the amount of games we had left. It was good to get that win against Horndean," added the left-back, who started as a youth team player with Bristol City.

"This season has been an eye-opener with some of the away grounds, that's for sure.

It is what it is.

"This club doesn't deserve to be where it is but it is.

"The quicker we get back up to Conference South/ Conference level the better it will be for everyone.

"I don't know too much about the league above but, from what I've been told, there's not a massive difference.

"The main aim is back-to-back promotions.

"Hopefully, keep the experienced players and build from there."

On Sunday, May 8, the Ray Mac is hosting a charity fun day with the feature match being Salisbury Charity Stars facing Salisbury Legends.

Hart will be lining up alongside the likes of pal Brian Dutton and former City stars Jon Bass, Andy Cook, Ian Chalk, Declan McGregor, Scott Bartlett, Aaron Cook and Charlie Knight for the Legends.

Money raised from the day will go to the Claire Brown Neurological Treatment fund and Salisbury FC Supporters Club.

"It's for a good cause and it should be a good day for everyone involved, Hart continued.

"I'm looking forward to it."
