DISASTER struck at Wick Lane on Tuesday night as Downton suffered their heaviest defeat of the season at the hands of Christchurch.

A Luke Stone hat-trick, Pepe-chino Smith's double and Jacques Bernard thrashed Robins with a six-goal feast in Sydenhams Wessex Division One.

The Hurn Bridge visitors made a storming start in the only game not to fall foul of the weather, scoring three goals in the the opening 30 minutes.

Stone weaved his way into the area before providing a close-range finish.

Smith doubled the visitors' lead before Grant Cormack's cross was tapped home by Stone.

Moments after the restart, Oliver Cherrett's men had five thanks to Smith and Stone, the latter completing his hat-trick for the match ball.

And Bernard got in on the rout late on with a good finish.

Robins manager Colin Hopkins said: "We were awful, conceding three goals in each half and as good as Christchurch are in attack we made it so easy for them and we need to bounce back from this with a win on Saturday."

Downton were better on Saturday, though, on home soil as they defeated Hythe and Dibden 3-1.

Assistant manager Ben Smith's header was cancelled out by Nick Skolsky's strike as the first half ended 1-1.

Dan Telfer then produced a miraculous strike, some 45 yards from goal, to restore the hosts' advantage.

And late on he added a second to complete the win.
