SCORES of runners braved the gale-force wind in this year's Downton half marathon.

The overall winner of the event, which attracted 300 competitors, was Bournemouth AC’s Peter Thompson, who crossed the line in a surprisingly quick 75min 8sec.

Three minutes behind Thompson was Mike Bisson and then Hamish Roper in third.

Best of the small City of Salisbury squad present was Andy Budgell in 41st place who, with sights already set on a good performance in April's London marathon, has already started his build-up.

His 1hour 33min 08sec run compared well with what he has achieved previously and left him content with progress so far.

Nick Willetts too demonstrated that he is successfully working himself back into contention following a frustratingly long absence caused by injury, and his 1.39.26 will no doubt be further reduced in forthcoming fixtures this winter.

He just pipped Ian Lawrence, only seconds behind with 1.39.32, who in turn was followed by Ellen ‘Egg’ Cameron in 1.46.25, Craig Murphy 1.49.06 and Melenie Murphy 1.55.03.
