SAM Wilson fired his third hat-trick of the term in Salisbury FC's 6-1 romp at depleted Folland Sports.

The striker's prolific instinct ensured Whites re-established their three-point lead at the top of Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division.

The position was strengthened by Andover Town’s 2-1 defeat at Bemerton Heath Harlequins and Blackfield & Langley being beaten 1-0 by visiting Moneyfields.

But it wasn't an ideal start for Whites, who fell behind to Jamie Blackburn's 21st minute stinging volley which flashed past Nathan Ball in the visiting rearguard.

Wilson equalised six minutes later as he skipped away from two defenders before sliding past Ross Casey.

Two alterations were made by Claridge before the break to bolster his attacking options, introducing Robbie Matthews and Claudio Herbert for Steve Walker and Dan Demkiv.

And the visitors had to wait just seven minutes into the second period to go ahead.

George Colson let fly with a rasping drive, 25 yards from goal, which went in off the underside of the bar.

Then, Whites let loose as they four times in a 19-minute period to sink the lowly hosts, who are already in a relegation scrap.

Herbert was fouled in the area and Wilson stepped from 12 yards to deliver the goods.

After substitute Taurean Roberts went on a dazzling run but was denied with his strike by Casey's sturdy gloves, Wilson completed the treble.

He converted Herbert's cross at the far post to take his tally to 19 for the term.

Hat-trick hero Wilson then turned provider, assisting Kane O'Keefe with a fifth team goal.

Matthews, in the 75th minute, volleyed Danny Young's cross into the net to complete the job and continue Whites' quest to win the league.

While the sorry hosts are still waiting for their first win at Follands Park.

“In the end we got what we deserved but it took an awful long time for us to get there,” admitted Salisbury boss Steve Claridge, whose side have scored 54 league goals since August, 12 more than near rivals AFC Portchester.

“We didn’t play the conditions very well in the first half. They made it difficult and set up to frustrate us and it took us a long while to get to grips with the game.”
