TOP gun Danny Finnigan joined partner-in-crime Nic Turpin in becoming an Amesbury Town centurion.

The skipper netted his 100th goal in 244 appearances for Blues – a year after Turpin reached the milestone – at lowly AFC Stoneham.

Finnigan's goal, the only one at Chestnut Avenue, came on the hour mark.

Cameron Roach was fouled in the box and captain Finnigan stepped up and fired home to banish memories of his miss at Laverstock and Ford for his 16th of the term and a 1-0 win.

"Credit to him (Danny Finnigan), he has been great for us this year but as much credit has to go into those behind him. We work hard to keep clean sheets and that’s two in a row now and the creativity that leads to his goals is obviously a help," said boss Gareth Horner, after watching his side collect their third win on the spin in Sydenhams Wessex Division One.

"Saturday was crucial for us. It was difficult, the pitch looked in good order but was tough going and the wind was horrific."

"I don’t think anyone can argue with the result; we were dominant and the game could have been out of sight at half time."

Saturday is Blues' biggest test as they face leaders Portland United at Bonnymead Park.

A win for the Blues will see them cut the gap to just four points, but they will have to do it without talisman Finnigan, who is suspended.

He added: "We go into Saturdays game full of confidence, knowing they have won their past 11 games so I think the pressure is probably more on them than us."

"Unfortunately, Danny will be missing this weekend as he serves a one game suspension but that doesn’t really concern us as our squad is as good as ever.

"That said, we are in discussion with a couple of players to add a little depth and quality for the busy Winter period."
