AN under-par fielding display cost Winterbourne dearly in a tight-fought game against Pylewell Park.

After winning the toss, Winterbourne decided to make use of the new ball in slightly damp conditions and once again the opening bowlers of Nick Lawrence and Vaughn Browne gave nothing away but were unable to take wickets as Pylewell limped to 30 without loss after 15 overs.

Ed Dadd and Nick Fiddy were brought into the attack to try and force a wicket and Fiddy struck in his third over and bowled John Royan for 21.

The opening bowlers returned to restrict Pylewell to 176 which was still an under par score on an excellent wicket. Carl Brooks finished unbeaten on 39.

Winterbourne's opening pair had a retro feel to it as Will Hearsey made a welcomed return to partner Jamie Harvey at the top of the order.

A rash shot from Hearsey saw him bowled for 22 and when Harvey followed five balls later for 24, the match had suddenly swung in Pylewell's favour.

Matt Windows passed his first 50 of the season and Nick Lawrence started swinging his arms, hitting a huge six down the ground to leave 30 needed off three overs.

But they ended up 10 runs short to taste defeat for the first time since May, which leaves them third in Regional Division 1.
