IT WAS a family affair for City of Salisbury’s Brewster family at the weekend, recording some ace times across the south.

Husband and wife Mike and Sarah were the club’s best performers at the Netley 10k and son Ben went faster than he’s ever gone before over 5k in Somerset.

The league race was the penultimate one in the season-long series of road events around the region, and veteran Mike Brewster’s London marathon effort last month had worn off sufficiently to allow a good run over the much shorter, three-lap challenge at Victoria Park in Southampton. His time of 35min 3sec compared well with overall winner Julian Manning of Denmead’s 33min 18sec.

In the women’s race, Sarah Brewster clocked a good 46min 27sec supported by Liz Roberts with 50min 57sec and Jackie Chlebowski 54min 6sec.

Other Salisbury runners were Kevin Daniels (39min 50sec), Steve Auton (40min 12sec), Nick Hudson (49min 52sec), Andy Robbins (50min 32sec) and Rod Smith (54min 7sec).

In the Yeovil summer series 5k, Ben Brewster put an edge to his road running speed when he clocked a PB of 15min 36sec for a well earned fourth. Adam Bradburn was timed at 19min 22sec and Aly Sloane at 22min 22sec.

Closing fixture of the season is the D-Day 10k race on June 7 at Portsmouth.
