TEENAGE hockey prospect Henry Emmett, pictured right, is being backed by bus firm Salisbury Reds.

The 16-year-old goalkeeper, who plays for Salisbury Hockey Club, has been offered funding from the company to pursue his dream of making the England squad.

He was recently selected to represent Wiltshire and hopes to take his hockey career to the next step.

“My absolute dream is to progress to the England squad, which is currently ranked fifth in the world,” said Henry, who started playing at the age of six.

“Salisbury Reds has been so supportive in my bid – sponsoring me and offering encouragement. Now I’ve been selected for Wiltshire and everything looks great for the future.

“I realise there is a big step from Wiltshire to England – but I’ll be giving it everything I have. I’d like to thank Salisbury Reds for showing such faith in me.”

The bus operator, which is celebrating its centenary year, is keen to build strong partnerships with those living within the communities it serves, and supporting local sportsmen and women is part of that.

Salisbury Reds operation manager Andrew Sherrington said: “Henry is an excellent example to young athletes across the county.

“His commitment and drive make him a tremendous prospect for the future. We are providing him with funds to help pay for his kit – and will be following his progress very carefully over the coming months.

“We wish him every success in the pursuit of his England dream and we’re looking forward to supporting him along the way.”
