LAVERSTOCK & Ford registered back-to-back wins in Wessex Division One in emphatic style by hammering five past basement-dwellers Romsey Town on Tuesday night.

Buoyant from winning away at United Services Portsmouth and securing a semi final place in the Wiltshire Senior Cup thanks to James Clifton’s brace (AET) against Corsham, Laverstock made a dream start.

They were coasting after the half-hour mark as they found themselves three-nil ahead.

Ollie Batchelor slotted home James Clifton’s cutback and Kane O’Keefe got two in quick succession; he finished a slick piece of play for the first and then headed home Tom Mundy’s cross for the second.

The out-of-sight visitors, who are starting to drift clear of relegation danger, got a fourth when Mundy coasted clear of the Town defence and slotted past the helpless home keeper.

Romsey pressed for a consolation, but in doing so left holes at the back and Lewis Wykes unselfishly teed up Kieran Mulcahy to top off a great team performance.

"Romsey is a tough place to go at the best of times and the conditions were horrendous,” manager Robbie Lakeman said.

“I think there were more lights not working than were actually on!

“But the players take all the credit as it would have been easy for them not to fancy it, so to score five and keep a clean sheet is testimony to how hard they worked on the night.

“We have quietly run into a bit of form now with five wins in six games (all competitions) and that can only help our confidence. We have two more league games this year and we will look to end the year on a high with some good performances.”
