THE new name of Salisbury City FC is to be unveiled in front of supporters at a Christmas function on Saturday.

Whites fans have been voting from a list of six which comprises Salisbury FC, AFC Salisbury, FC Salisbury City, Salisbury Corinthians FC, Salisbury AFC and City of Salisbury FC.

Newly-elected chairman David Phillips, chief operating officer Jeremy Harwood and director Graeme Mundy are set to attend the event where they will announce the decision. Many fans are expected to flock to The Vestry Bar, Milford Street, where they will re-live the glory days by watching a past play-off final.

Either the Southern Premier play-off final at Hednesford Town or the Conference South play-off final against Dover last year will be screened from 3pm.

Organiser and fan Thom Belk has been planning the event with Stuart Cannell for the past few weeks.

“Since the event was fixed we have been buoyed by the news of the new consortium gaining the clubs assets,” Belk said.

“With supporters currently voting for their preferred choice of name for the phoenix club, we now await the decision.

Saturday provides a chance to catch up with friends and savour a Salisbury City game from the past and look forward to a new dawn.

“After a year of uncertainty it’s nice to go into 2015 with hope.”

Doors open on Saturday from 2pm and there will be a 50/50 draw like at half time on match days.

Amanda Newbery, managing director of The Vestry Bar, said: “We have supported the Whites through a fair few management and team changes.

“The only constant thing is the fans and we've been happy to lend them The Vestry Bar while the Ray Mac is shut. Salisbury needs its football club back. In the days of Nev Beal and Nick Holmes, it was the best business networking going, with beer and football thrown in!”

So far, 800 people have voted and fans can still vote at http://salisburycity-fc.co.uk/ until 10am on Saturday morning.

The board of directors, who bought assets of Salisbury, have met with the trustees who own the Ray Mac and expect to hear whether they have the green light in the new year.
