OUTSTANDING Toby Lambert is set to rip up the course record he set at City of Salisbury Running Club’s flagship 10mile road race this March following a series of terrific wins.

In soaking wet, slow conditions at Sandown Park at the weekend, the Winchester AC athlete was a class act when winning a 10k in 31min 43sec at the annual Running and Endurance Show event, a full three minutes clear of the field.

His record on the Stratfordsub- Castle 10mile stands at 49.37, set three years ago when fending off the challenges of Simon Plummer from the host club who took second place.

The highly-regarded Salisbury fixture – recently rated a UK’s top ten at the distance in Men’s Running magazine – is already receiving entries and is expected to attract a full field of 800, but few are likely to challenge Lambert’s supremacy.

Some distance behind Lambert on Sunday, James Ruskin from Salisbury was placed eighth in 37.40.

Meanwhile, at the interservices 10k at Leeds, Salisbury’s Tom Cummings turned in a good performance to finish in 33mins flat. He was third counter in the army’s team of three that took second place overall.

In another wet fixture at Bournemouth’s Boscombe 10k, Kathryn Dreyer defied the rain to cross the finishing line in 59.21.
