GARY Topley lifted a personal best in his fourth-placed finish in the World Powerlifting Championships.
The Salisbury powerlifter flew out to America last week where he competed in the 100kg Men’s Open Class at West Palm Beach Box Convention Centre.
Topley lifted 180kg and 190kg in his first two lifts but missed 200kg on his third attempt, which would have sealed a bronze medal. Reflecting on the medal miss, Topley remained upbeat.
He said: “I was a little bit disappointed to have missed out on a medal, but overall I am still pleased as I still got a personal best of 190kg and finished fourth.”
