FLASHES of improvement were signalled by Laverstock and Ford despite being dumped out of the Sydenhams League Cup by Alresford Town.

Daniel Fox, Tom Riddell and Daniel Strange found the net at the Dell, which came before Kane O’Keefe’s 87th minute consolation.

Boss Robbie Lakeman admitted Lavvy’s performance in the 1-3 defeat was more positive than the recent six-goal mauling at Cowes Sports.

“I wasn't too bothered about the result, it was more about the performance after last week and that's we concentrated on,” said Lakeman, whose team have won just once in their past seven games.

“We were a lot better and on another day would have got the win as well.

“We dominated for large parts of the game but when you are struggling for form like we are the ball doesn't fall for you at the right times, which was certainly the case on Saturday. The team’s focus remains the same and if we can get some positive results from our next two cup games we can hopefully kick on in the league.”

Lavvy are at home to Sarum Youth in the Salisbury Hospital Cup on Saturday (3pm).

DOWNTON suffered their heaviest defeat of the season as they were removed from the Wessex cup by a rampant Cowes Sports.

Their Division One rivals got the magnificent seven through Jared Wetherick’s hat-trick, John McKie’s brace and goals from Joseph Adams and Joe Butcher.

Downton chase their first league victory on Saturday when Pewsey Vale visit Wick Lane Saturday (3pm).
