DEADLY Eddie Perrett conquered a second consecutive hat-trick as a makeshift Amesbury Town cruised into the third round of the Sydenhams League Cup.

The Wessex Divison One hotshot disposed of Wessex Premier outfit Hamworthy United with a styled trio.

He got Amesbury off to a dream start inside nine minutes, showing great composure in front of goal to finish off a slick Town move.

On the half-hour mark Hamworthy restored parity when Russell Cook pounced onto a forward pass, well clear of Amesbury defenders, and chipped Paddy Creese.

Eight minutes after the interval, Perrett’s partner-incrime Danny Finnigan restored the visitors’ lead which was blown out five minutes later when Callum Charlton slotted home.

Having twice been clawed back, the Blues refused to look over their shoulders further and killed the game off with three strikes in five minutes during the dying embers at The County Ground.

Talisman Perrett regained control of the tie and, before he completed his hat-trick, youngster Cameron Roach got on the scoresheet.

Manager Gareth Horner believes the result reflects that his blue army can compete against reputable Wessex sides.

He said: “The result was no fluke as the lads performed exceptionally with a few of them playing out of position.

“It shows the depth of our squad that we can travel with 12 and compete with an established Wessex Premier side.”

“When they equalised for the second time we could have quite easily folded but we continued to play the right way and got what we deserved. There were some exceptional performances but collectively we were superb.”

Before Town travel to islanders Newport in the cup, they host Fleet Spurs on Saturday in the league (3pm).
