Salisbury’s Festival of Choirs, held at St Thomas’s Church, raised thousands in their annual event on Saturday, April 27.
Organiser Kate Edgar, who runs six of the choirs that attended, said in a statement:
“I am delighted to report that Salisbury’s first Festival of Choirs, held at St Thomas’s church on Saturday, April 27, raised a staggering £6,854.”
“Thank you so much to everyone who worked so hard to make the festival such a success.
“The choirs, the cake bakers, the washer uppers, the stewards and of course the audience. We had 2500 people through the day, which is an amazing number.
17 choirs performed on the day, including several community choirs, Salisbury Plain Military Wives Choir, Chafyn Grove School Choir and two sea shanty groups.
The event was free to attend, with refreshments on offer, and the money raised has been split between Cancer Research and St Thomas’s Church.

Sue Gallagher, Chairman of the Salisbury Committee of Cancer Research UK, said: “Grateful thanks to Kate Edgar for arranging the Festival of Choirs which was a great success for which the Local Fundraising Committee of Cancer Research UK benefited from the retiring collection along with St. Thomas’s Church.”
