ED SHEERANS’ ‘soothing voice’ has proved popular with some residents at a Verwood care home.

Residents at Verwood care home channelled their inner Simon Cowell after spending the afternoon judging the BRIT Award nominees.

The nominees were labelled hit or miss by the resident judges in the competition.

Residents listened to all ten songs competing for the title of a BRIT award.

The residents were less than impressed with the nominated songs by Pink Pantheress, Central Cee and Rudimental.

Salisbury Journal:

A certain fan favourite was Eyes Closed by British award-winning singer, Ed Sheeran.

Margaret Pearson, aged 89, said: “What a very good and romantic song, it’s a hit for me because it’s so soothing to listen to.

“His voice reminds me of Frank Sinatra, who is one of my favourite singers ever.”

However, there may be musical conflict in the home over who should take the top spot.

Fellow resident Margaret Williams, aged 92, said her support was behind Lewis Capaldi, who was nominated for his song, Wish You the Best.

Margaret said: “I do like this song, it’s very catchy.

“It sounds a bit like a Bing Crosby song to me, and that’s high praise indeed.”

Wellbeing coach Emilia Turner said: “Congratulations to Ed Sheeran, he may be a multi-award winner with platinum albums, but getting the Verwood judge's vote is a serious achievement.

“It was so much fun to listen to the best of modern British music together and hear what the residents thought of it all.

“If Ed fancies bringing his guitar down to Verwood House and putting on a performance, we can guarantee he’ll get a very warm welcome from our residents.

“In the meantime, we all send him the best of luck at the BRIT Awards.”

The BRIT Awards take place on March 2 at The O2 arena.
