A NEWLY renovated city centre pub is in a flurry of last-minute activity ready to open its doors to the public once more.

The Coach and Horses in Winchester Street is an old coaching inn which has recently had a complete make-over.

The interior is now elegant and thoughtful with great attention paid to the aesthetics aiming for a contemporary look while retaining its ageing beams.

The bar is packed with every type of drink.

There are 21 taps located at the back of the bar - one for water, two for cider and the rest for lager and ales. Three other traditional pumps sit at the front of the bar. There are six Dark Revolution brewery taps available.

Assistant manager Holly Stevenson said: "The Coach and Horses will be the only venue outside of the Dark Revolution brewery to stock its new beer released each week."

She said: "If you can't get to Old Sarum, you can come to the Coach and Horses to try the new beer. But we also have every spirit available, lots of bottled beers and cocktails.

"There are even non-alcoholic versions of cocktails for those who cannot drink."

The pub is also dog friendly and the staff is keen to welcome people in with their pet pooches.

Holly pointed to photos of dogs on the wall: "These are the dogs of those who work here. I also have plans to make a photo wall and will be taking snaps of people who come here on the first night."

Entertainment has been planned for the big relaunch and will continue all over the weekend. There will be live music inside the pub by the bar and out in the garden which is a safe space for families with children.

The old stables remain in situ but now provide a seating area and heating for customers on those chilly days. Food will be available but the venue is keen to be known as a pub rather than as a restaurant.

A diverse menu is planned including food for vegetarians.

Holly said: "I think every generation can appreciate it. We want this to be a safe place for people."

Payment will be by card only.

The official opening takes place at 5pm on Friday, October 6 and the Coach and Horses will then be open to the public from 11.30am to 11pm.
