An average of 72.3% of A&E patients in the NHS Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board (BSW ICB) service area managed to be admitted in less than four hours after arrival, according to numbers recently released by the NHS.

The data published on Thursday, September 14, covers the first eight months of 2023, up to and including August.

NHS sets a target of 95% of A&E patients being admitted in less than four hours. Only one integrated care board (ICB) has managed to meet this threshold at any point during 2023.

Frimley averaged above 95% during all months up to and including May, but figures dropped sharply in June and have not recovered. Frimley admitted just 66.9% of patients in less than four hours in August.

In Bath, North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire, figures have improved slightly, though not in a statistically significant way. Seventy-five percent of patients were admitted in less than four hours in August.

Despite the struggles, the BSW ICB has fared better than neighbouring ICBs. The NHS Dorset ICB managed to admit an average of just 67.4% of patients within the targeted time frame, while NHS Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West managed just 66.9%.
