The Poppy Factory, which helps veterans and their families across England and Wales to find employment and transition into the workforce, was the charity of choice by Tesco shoppers in Salisbury and Amesbury for the Tesco Community Grant.

The charity received £1,500 from stores in Amesbury and £500 from Salisbury stores.

Further afield, Tesco shoppers in Lincoln, Catterick and Kensington & Chelsea also used their tokens to support The Poppy Factory.

Amanda Shepard, chief executive of The Poppy Factory, said: “Thank you to everyone in Amesbury, Salisbury, Lincoln, Catterick and Kensington & Chelsea who used a token to vote in a Tesco store for our employment service. Your backing is greatly appreciated, and it will help more veterans and their families to change their lives through employment support.”

Tesco Community Grants operate across the country, contributing funds to charities based upon voting done by customers wherein small blue tokens provided at Tesco stores are dropped into the pot of the shopper’s chosen charity.

Last year in Salisbury, the scheme donated £1,500 to improve the warehouse operation at The Trussell Trust’s location on Ashfield Road and £500 to the Rise:61 Community Garden Club.
