AN "extremely fit" elderly man died after falling off his bicycle while going round a corner, an inquest heard.

Christopher Thomas Moore, 81, was cycling through Whiteparish on his electric bicycle at around 1pm on October 28, 2022.

He had been helping his son, Philip Moore, with some fencing and needed to go back home to make more wooden pegs.

But when Mr Moore took a corner on Common Road he fell off his bicycle and suffered a catastrophic brain injury.

An inquest held at Wiltshire and Swindon Coroners Court on Wednesday, May 24, heard that Mr Moore was not wearing a helmet because it was uncomfortable with his hearing aid.

Paramedics rushed to the scene, arriving at 1.10pm, and took him to Salisbury District Hospital where doctors found neurological problems and he was pronounced dead at 8.20pm.

Philip Moore, who attended the inquest, said his dad was "extremely fit" and "liked to keep active".

Senior coroner David Ridley recorded the death as accidental due to a severe head injury from falling off a bicycle.

Mr Ridley said: "I would like to offer my condolences in relation to the premature loss of your father because clearly, not a lot else was going on to bring his life to an end."
