A WOMAN had to be freed from her car after crashing into a pub in Fordingbridge.

Four fire crews were called to The Augustus John after the Vauxhall Astra hit the pub at around 5.40pm on Friday.

They freed the woman driving the car before paramedics took over.

A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service said they treated her for minor head injuries.

Checks were being carried out last night to ensure the building was structurally sound.

The pub's owner, Bryan Greenwood, said the pub was able to open for business this weekend but was forced to shut on Friday following the incident.

"We're all patched up and open as normal, but we lost quite a bit of trade last night.

"The car came through the wall and knocked the piano over. However, this prevented the car coming in any further.

"It could have been a lot, lot worse. There's a family which normally sit in that corner, but they were a bit late yesterday so that was lucky.

"We have a hole about two metres high and one and a half metres wide now, but the surveyors are coming on Monday."
