PEDAL power helped to raise more than £21,000 for Salisbury and District Samaritans.

More than 600 riders turned out on Sunday, May 22 for the Sams Ride cycle sportif to support the branch, which is based in Milford Street.

There were three routes for cyclists to tackle, including 25, 50 and 100 miles.

When riders had completed their routes they were warmly welcomed and each one was given a Samaritans goody bag to take home. They were also given a hot meal.

This is only the second Sams Ride to be held by the branch. Plans are already underway to host the event in 2017.

The Samaritans branch is run entirely by volunteers to help those in need of emotional support, this is done by phone, text, email and face-to-face meetings.

The Salisbury and District Branch, which covers Andover to Salisbury and across to Warminster, costs £70,000 per year to run.
