THERE will be even more choice for visitors to the 2016 Fisherton Festival, say organisers.

The event takes place on the Mayday Bank Holiday, May 2, 10am until 7pm.

But the fun will start the evening before the main event with a number of pubs in and around Fisherton Street hosting live music.

Organiser Steve Dauwalder, who is taking over from his father Paul, said: “Last year we tried to provide something for everyone and this year there will be even more choice. We have had great support from local churches, businesses and residents making this a great community event.”

The main stage will be hosting a mix of local and regional acts, starting at 10am and running through to 6pm. There will also be entertainment from dance groups, including hip hop and salsa as well as about 60 craft, retail and artisan stalls.

Visitors can also try the varieties of real ales and ciders, and different world and local foods. There will also be a champagne bar.

The festival will also have a children and family area with entertainment and activities.

Fisherton Street and Bridge Street will be closed to traffic on the day of the festival.

And due to overwhelming numbers turning out last year, organisers have changed the layout.

Steve added: “At times last year, we experienced people pinch points and we are hoping that the new layout will make the experience more comfortable.”

The festival is being supported by Salisbury BID and local businesses. Salisbury City Council’s services committee on Monday night agreed to give £3,500 towards the running costs.

In 2015 the free event attracted about 7,000 visitors.

Festival organisers are looking for street entertainers for busking spots and event sponsors.
