MEDIEVAL knights clashed over the bank holiday weekend as they battled it out at Old Sarum.

Visitors turned out in force to the Grand Medieval Joust on Sunday and Monday and were able to soak up the medieval way of life.

There was entertainment from a jester, who had visitors in fits of laughter, as well as falconry displays and medieval music.

More than 2,000 visitors attended the event over the two days.

"Despite the weather, which was not completely on our side, we had a good turn out. There were lots of people who all had a good time," said site manager Naomi Matthews

"It was as exciting as it looks in the pictures. It was really good and an exciting finally to our summer season of events."

Four knights, North, South, East and West, pitted their skills against each showing off their spear throwing and swordsmanship before the final joust to crown the winner.

On Bank Holiday Monday, the knights were cheered on and congratulated by eight-year-old Edie Osmond, a local representative of the English Heritage Kids Take Over Round Table.
