THOUSANDS of people enjoyed a sun-soaked afternoon in Wilton on Saturday at the town's Community Carnival.

The day saw live music, children's entertainment, stalls and a procession of floats through the town with a Hollywood theme.

Led by 16 Wiltshire Mayors, winning entries included The Happy Flappers, 1st Wilton Scouts, Salisbury Gymnastics, little Leo Reed and Kingfisher Montessori.

Carnival chairman Gary Nunn said: “We were overwhelmed with the amount of people who came to see us and delighted with the whole day. It has become the biggest community event in Wilton and makes the past year’s work all worthwhile."

On Sunday, the Wilton Big Lunch Family Picnic took place in aid of the Trussell Trust, the Salisbury Foodbank.

After opening with the Baptist church service, people enjoyed music from the Amici Singers big choir, led by Kate Edgar, Hamlet Peter’s reggae guitar and vocals and Half of Murphy’s folk duo.

Mr Nunn said: "Large amounts of food were donated to The Trussell Trust who were delighted with the response from Wilton people."
