WITH a week left until the election the returning officer for Wiltshire has urged voters to go to the polls.

The general election takes place on Thursday, May 7 and the polls will be open from 7am to 10pm.

Residents do not need to take their polling card along on the day to vote but on arrival they will be asked for their address and staff will find their name on the register — no ID is required.

The Salisbury constituency is being fought by Conservative John Glen, Liberal Democrat Reeten Banerji, Labour's Tom Corbin, Ukip's Paul Martin, Green Party candidate Alison Craig and Independent King Arthur Pendragon.

Carlton Brand, acting returning officer for Wiltshire said: “Our preparation for polling day continues and although it’s extremely busy, so far everything is going smoothly and our fantastic team are doing a great job.

“We want people to have their voice heard, so if you’re eligible, I would ask people to make their vote count.”
