A RAILWAYMAN who worked at Breamore Railway until it closed in 1964 is still steaming ahead as he celebrates his 100th birthday.
The aptly-named Bert Young reached the milestone on November 17 with more than 200 people celebrating with him at Allenbrook Nursing Home.
Bert, who staff at Allenbrook describe as a kind and unassuming man with a wicked sense of humour, was thrilled to receive a birthday card from the Queen.
“Bert sums up the real meaning of gentleman,” said one of his greatest friends.
But Bert said: “I can’t understand what all the fuss is about.”
