THE city’s Poppy Appeal is now underway after being launched by the Salisbury mayor Jo Broom this morning.

The appeal was created by the Royal British Legion to help those returning from the First World War.

A century on from the conflict it is still helping today’s Armed Forces families in much the same way, whether coping with bereavement, living with disability, or finding employment.

Cllr Broom said: “Being surrounded by camps, Salisbury has a close association with the armed forces. This year, which marks the 100th anniversary of the First World War, makes now a very honourable and special time.

“It’s important to remember all those who sacrificed for us and to stop and reflect on what they did.”
