HEALTHWATCH Wiltshire (HWW) has made recommendations for improvements to the complaints systems after revealing nearly a third of people experienced or witnessed a relative or friend receiving poor quality health care.

Yet two thirds of these people did not complain about it, according to a new national report out this week.

Emma Cooper, chief executive of HWW, said: “If people have a poor experience of a health or social care service then they should be encouraged to give feedback which includes raising concerns or making a complaint. It should be easy but people tell us that it’s not.”

HWW’s recommendations include providing clear, easily accessible information about how to make a complaint, ensuring complaints information and processes are child-friendly and putting in place a process by which nonrelatives can raise concerns on another’s behalf.
