A PACKED season of comedy, music, films, drama, dance and family fun awaits audiences in Salisbury.

Salisbury Arts Centre this week announced the line-up for its autumn season.

It kicks-off with a whole afternoon of family fun events on Saturday, September 17 with Watch This Space. Whether your taste is music, dance, creative activity or even watching theatre inside a giant inflatable pig there is truly something for every age group, interest and skillset.

There will be the chance to try out a variety of workshop activities and if sketching is your passion, the Lostwood fairies will be making a special enchanted appearance to help visitors create some magical memories.

The arts centre is working closely with local businesses. Renewing their relationship as educational sponsors, Fletcher & Partners are supporting two exciting dance workshops which cross the generations.

On October 25, Springs Dance Company will bring their performance The Magic Paintbrush. Running alongside it will be two dance workshops during the day for under sevens.

Over the weekend of November 5-6 there will be a two day dance residency run by ACE Dance and Music for Jigsaw, Salisbury Youth Dance Company and DANCE SIX-O. Together the companies will develop and learn an intergenerational curtain raiser dance performance, which will then be performed on November 11 prior to the ACE Dance and Music production of TEN.

Salisbury Arts Centre is working in association with the Journal to present a two-day comedy festival in early December.

The festival which runs from December 2-3, has comedy for all ages and tastes, with Zoe Lyons and Shazia Mirza, children’s comedian James Campbell, a special live lunch with a robotic steam band and an improvisation workshop. Up-and-coming deaf comedian Rinkoo Barpaga will present his take on life early, followed by Mark Simmons supporting Seann Walsh and comedian Tape Face.

A special bonus for all over 18s attending the Friday and Saturday night comedy sessions is the ticket give free entry to The Chapel nightclub after the show before midnight.

Other comedy treats for the autumn season are stand-ups Marcus Brigstocke and Mark Steel, and the arts centre welcomes the return of the monthly Barnstormers comedy show in September, October and November.

Rosie Kay Dance Company will bring their Double Points: K and Motel show to the city on October 19.

Musical features of the season include Eddi Reader (September 23), International Celebrity Concert (October 1), Steve Howe (October 7), Dervish (October 14), The Furrow Collective (October 20), Dona Rosa November 16 and Charlie Dore November 24.

Salisbury Arts Centre is again hosting part of the annual Celebrate Voice festival in October with performances from the Ian Shaw Trio, the Sam Kelly trio and Fascinating Aïda’s Dillie Keane.

Theatre highlights include DTs Productions’ Kinetics (September 27), Idle Motion’s Shooting with Light (October 5) and Smoking Apples’ In Our Hands (November 2).

And looking ahead to the festive period the arts centre, will start Christmas early with The Lock In Christmas Carol on November 19. There will also be a tropical Christmas Party with Nii Okai Tagioe on December 16.

In the run up to Christmas there will also be a special screening of It’s a Wonderful Life (December 20) and two daytime family theatre performances of Arabian Nights by the Story Pocket Theatre on (December 22).
