FORDINGBRIDGE-BASED Hyde Band has triumphed in a contest in Cornwall.
The brass band took part in the West of England Bandsmen's Festival last Saturday in Bugle, and came home laden with glory, huge silver trophies, and prize money.
Led by their conductor, Jonathan Lush-Camps, himself a Cornishman, whose dream has been to take the band to this famous Cornish contest, the band claimed first prizes in both the Hymn Tune - Thine Be the Glory, and Test Piece sections - Edward Gregson's Essay for Brass Band.
Hyde Band secretary Sue Bennett said: "I have never been to a contest like it before — the whole town turned out to line the streets, applaud and cheer, as all the bands marched to the town centre."
The band will be playing at Woodgreen on July 1, Damerham Show on July 30 July, Romsey Show on September 10 and a fireworks concert at Trafalgar School, Downton on September 16.
